Wine Cork Monogram

Evan and I are wine aficionados, and what’s better than to create some craft projects for the house with leftover wine corks?  I had seen a picture of a wine cork monogram a few years ago, and thought that I could make something similar for our home.  Here’s how!

First, I bought a wooden S from Michael’s.  You can find these in any craft store for $2-3 each.

To make sure that the white background didn’t show through the corks, I painted it copper using some craft paint.

Next, gather up your corks!  If you don’t have enough, you can always buy them in bulk from Amazon.  Feel free to mix in some champagne corks, too.

Using a hot glue gun, dab one end of each cork with glue and stick it directly onto the monogram.  Be sure to press down on the cork to keep it in place for a few seconds as the glue dries.

Apply the corks section by section to make sure they fit properly.

Work your way down the monogram, all the while keeping an eye for which corks will fit better than others in some places.  I love the purple stains you get from red wine corks, so I incorporated those throughout.

Almost there!

To create some more interest, I added two of these mini grapes to the wreath. Similar grapes can be found in any craft store. I first hot glued them to the wreath, but they wouldn’t hold. I later stuck in sewing pins to keep them in place, but I’d imagine that super glue would do the trick, too.

All done!  That was easy, right?

Some details:

I absolutely love how this monogram turned out.  We have it hanging up in our living room and it makes that wall that much more special.

For another cool wine cork project, check out this wine cork wreath I made two years ago, too!
