We live on an Appalachian mountain. Our backyard gradually slopes down into thick woods and eventually meets a tiny creek at the base of a miniature valley. It has been raining every day, and when I came home from work last week, I could hear a roaring coming from our backyard. It sounded like a freeway. So, the Corgis and I took a trip to see what was going on.
We climb down, and see this:
I have been under a lot of stress from work lately, and there are times when I feel that I place my career ahead of everything else, including my family, friends, and myself.
As I stood there, listening to the rushing of the mini waterfalls and hearing the pups shuffle through the leaves, I realized that I need to take more time truly dedicating myself to the small things in life… even if it’s just to take time to hike through the woods.
Or call a long-distance friend.
Or spend an evening with Evan on the front porch.
Otherwise, these moments will go unnoticed.
I’ll work on it. I promise.
